Welcome to Google Prompting Essentials. Gen AI is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that uses generative models to create new content, like images, music, video, and text, all from user inputs. Those inputs are known as prompts.
There's a simple framework that helps you provide clear and specific directions to any gen AI tool: Thoughtfully Create Really Excellent Inputs, or Task, Context, References, Evaluate, and Iterate.
Crafting a great prompt starts by describing the task you want the tool to help you with. The task is the foundation of any prompt.
Providing background information rounds out the model's understanding of what you're looking for. These details are a vital part of creating great prompts.
References are examples or resources that guide an AI tool towards the output you want. The key is to clearly label and structure your references.
Critically evaluate that the output is accurate, unbiased, relevant, and consistent before incorporating it into your workflows.
If you find an output lacking, continue clarifying what you need until it's just right. That's where our ABI advice comes in: Always Be Iterating.
With multimodal prompting, you can achieve much more than with text alone, opening up a world of new possibilities. Modalities are different types of formats, like text, image, or audio, that can be used to instruct a generative AI tool.
